In Cauterets you can find every type of skiing and snowboarding for all ages and abilities.
There are two ski areas: The Cirque du Lys and Pont D’Espagne:
In 2005, Cauterets invested over 20 million euros in building the new high speed 8 man telecabine system. You can take the telecabine from the town (just a 5 minute walk from our apartments) and enjoy 10 minutes of beautiful aerial scenery before reaching the ski station at an impressive 1850m.
From the ski station you can access 36km of downhill pistes (from 1350m - 2350m) as follows:
If you prefer cross country skiing and/or ski touring, or would like to try it as an alternative to downhill skiing or snowboarding, at Pont D’Espagne you can explore over 35km of cross country runs descending over 5 loops.
You can also discover the winter wonderland valleys, streams and waterfalls via a wealth of snowshoe and walking tracks. As for the kids, they can go tobogganing and practice skiing on the nursery downhill ski slope next door to the Refuge de Clot Café, whilst you sit back with a hot drink and bite to eat.
Cauterets has three ski schools with many ski instructors speaking both French and English. Please let us know if you would like us book ski or snowboard lessons or ski guides for you.
For all your ski/snowboard equipment needs, there are over 10 ski hire shops in the town. We can help you with ski hire and can also purchase your ski passes in advance to save you the trouble when you get here.
You can also visit other ski stations within an hours drive of Cauterets, including Barèges la Mongie, Luz Ardiden and Gavarnie Gedre.
There are plenty more activities besides the skiing to enjoy in Cauterets during winter. Here are some suggestions:
