Why stick with one winter sport, choose a few or try them all! Snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, igloo and snow shelter building, ice skating, down hill skiing or snowboarding and ski touring. All of this and more available here in Cauterets and the Pyrenees National Park.

SNOWSHOEING / RAQUETTES

Easy to pick up, this fantastic way of exploring the winter wonderland will get you places your skis would never let you! Choose from easy short trips to longer more challenging guided excursions.

Location: Best in Pont d’Espagne (15 mins from town centre). Follow 6km easy tracks or longer routes of your choice.
Guides/Lessons: No lessons required, guided ˝ Day or Full Day excursions available if required. Early booking not normally necessary.
Suitable for: All levels & children.
Clothing: Normal ski gear suitable and Winter Walking Boots/Snow Boots (boots available for hire in Cauterets)
Equipment: Snow Shoes / Racquettes and poles (available for hire in Cauterets)

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING / SKI DE FOND

Explore the stunning Pont d’Espagne amongst its snow covered trees and ice clad waterfalls using these lighter and thinner cross country skis. A totally different ski experience to down hill skiing but just as rewarding.

Location: Pont d’Espagne(15 mins from town centre) – 36.5kms (5 circuits). Cable car lift.
Guides/Lessons: Lessons available for all levels or follow easy marked routes. Reserving lessons in advance in peak seasons is advisable.
Suitable for: All levels & children.
Clothing: Lighter weight ski gear preferable but normal ski gear acceptable for beginners.
Equipment: Cross-country skis, cross-country ski boots and poles (available for hire in Cauterets).

SKI TOURING / SKI DE RANDONNEE

Get off the beaten track and truly explore the best that the Pyrenees has to offer. Ski touring lessons available or for the more advanced hire a guide to take you in to the wild snow covered frontier! Suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers.

Location: Best from Pont d’Espagne(15 mins from town centre) then up Valley Macadau towards Refuge Wallon.
Guides/Lessons: Lessons available or hire guide to take you to explore. Reserving lessons or a guide in advance is advisable.
Suitable for: Suitable for intermediate to advanced skiers, off-piste skiing skills required.
Clothing: Lighter weight ski gear preferable but normal ski gear acceptable.
Equipment: Ski touring skis and ski touring boots and poles plus Avalanche Safety Equipment (available for hire in Cauterets).

Do I have to do just one activity or can I try a few?

There is no restriction to how long you need do any of the above activities. It is all up to you. Some activities like Ski touring may take longer to organise so give us some notice if you want to try this.
